OK Corral gets rave reviews in NODA Magazine
January, 2011
This is a write up on our recent pantomime that appeared in NODA magazine.
“PANTO AT THE O.K. CORRAL” - Director: Karen Dolan-Smith Choreography Kate Parry & Paula Carr
“Starlight served up a real change to the traditional pantomime we were used to with this western style panto. One was immediately transported to the mid-west where the Sherriff of Small Holding villainously portrayed by John Roberts undertook get his hands on valuable land owned by Winnie Pegg. This role was a new avenue for Paul Dunn who made the most of his lucrative role. There were many well-known characters in this piece, rather too many to mention individually– Kate Parry as Diamond Lil whose saloon saw much of the action. Tom Parry and Alana Price as Clint Westwood and Calamity Jane respectivefully were of course the hero and heroin. I must mention Lightning, the pantomime horse – excellently played by Hannah Dolan-Smith and Peter Margetts.
The musical numbers were well thought out, choreographed and performed with support from the Gaynor Owen Dancers. The Can Can in the second act being a highlight. Polished contribution form Junior Chorus- Spydrs, they knew every word and movement – well done. Costumes were of the period and one must congratulate Peter Weston on the design and construction of the eye-catching backcloths, assisted by Jason Hudgell, they made such a terrific difference to the production as a whole.
A familiar phrase during the performance was ‘A man’s gotta do what a man’s gotta do’ and this certainly applied to this production as everyone did what they had to do and did it very well.
Thank you Starlight once again and Congratulations to all cast and helpers.”

...about the Agatha Christie style comedy spoof...
“It was very entertaining, and excellent value for money. If you've never seen one of the Starlight Player’s productions you are seriously missing out.”

"ALADDIN” - Director: Paul Dunn Musical Director: Melissa Minnice
“A real triumph for Director Paul Dunn who also wrote the script and with a solid production team this pantomime really took off.
The large cast of adults and children was headed by Nest Jones in the title role with experienced Jeremy Davies as the most wicked Abanazer I have ever seen – fabulous make-up. Steve Clayton was a real hit as Widow Twankey- the audience just loved him with Gethin Roberts as Wishee Washee, Aladdin’s brother. Peter Weston and Julie Roberts impressed as Emperor and Empress respectively whilst Ffion Vaughan-Williams carried out her duties as Grand Vizier. There were many supporting roles each one fully justifying their selection. Creative dance routines from The Gaynor Owen Dancers supported by an enthusiastic chorus added to the success. The show was beautifully dressed with full marks to the costume department but I felt scenery was rather sparse and the stage could have been dressed with more props. Nevertheless a most enjoyable performance. Thank you all so much once again."
