Once upon a time, long, long ago

The Criccieth Starlight Players were formed in 1974 by a group of local people interested in amateur theatre who wished to “give something back” to the community. The Society started life as a pantomime group with its first production of Cinderella being staged in 1975. A summer play “Friends and Neighbours” was staged in 1979 and this format continued until 1996 when more music based variety shows were introduced as the main summer performance.

The group today

In 2001, the Society took the step of staging three productions in a calendar year - a play in May/June - a show in the summer and a winter pantomime. In 2003 a dedicated junior section was started (SPYDERS) who meet every Saturday morning and is proving very popular with our local young performers.

Criccieth Memorial Hall

The hall has opened it's doors to all the Starlight Players productions for the past 30 years. Offering superb facilities, including excellent sound and lighting, the hall can accommodate 600 patrons on two levels and that makes it the largest theatre in Gwynedd. The hall was once described as "the best small theatre venue in the country" by Dame Hilda Brackett during 'her' performance at the Criccieth Festival.

If you would like a tour of the hall to assess it's suitability for your event requirements or wish to make a booking, please contact Peter Cuncliffe on  pcuncliffe@hotmail.co.uk
