1) A Brief History of the Starlight Players
  • 1974 - The Criccieth Starlight Players Amateur Theatrical Society formed as a pantomime group.
  • 1975 - First panto, Cinderella, staged.
  • 1979 - First summer play 'Friends and Neighbours'.
  • 1996 - Society starts producing summer variety shows. We now perform them on a semi-regular basis, as an alternative to a summer play.
  • 2003 - Youth theatre section, SPYDRS, formed. Its still going strong and often oversubscribed.
  • 2009 - first musical theatre production, Annie Junior. A week-long workshop production by the SPYDRS, with assistance from the adult company.
  • 2015 - Society agrees to move its rehearsals and meetings to Criccieth Memorial Hall.
  • 2016 - first full-scale musical theatre production, Disney's Beauty and the Beast (JR.)
The group today

The Starlight Players have continued to perform and produce pantomimes and summers shows in Criccieth. We regularly receive excellent reviews from the National Operatic and Dramatic Association (NODA).

2) Rehearsal and Meeting Information

The Society meets regularly on Tuesday and Sunday evenings at Criccieth Memorial Hall's Green Room. Towards the end of a rehearsal period (i.e. just before the opening night), the cast is normally expected to commit to weekend technical and dress rehearsals.

If you would like to come along and see what happens, please visit the join us page and complete the contact form.

 3) Social Activities

The Society has always worked more as a group of friends than a formal theatrical society and has an active social calendar. We try and take advantage of the local area and to have as much fun as possible.

In this past this has included:

  • Camping trips, often to Nant Gwynant campsite.
  • Beach days and barbecues, usually on Criccieth Beach.
  • Car treasure hunts.
  • DVD nights.
  • Theatre trips.
  • Fireworks night.

If that sounds like fun, then join us! Remember, acting is not necessarily required - we need people in all sorts of roles.
Committee

The Starlight Players are a democratic group. The elected Committee is responsible for the smooth running of the Society in accordance with our Constitution and the decisions of members at general meetings.

The Committee also appoints officers to carry out other non-committee roles.
